The current food safety situation in our country has improved but remains severe. Food testing is an important foundation for ensuring food safety. Overcoming the challenges in testing technology is key to enhancing the quality of food testing work. In recent years, China has significantly increased support for research and development in food safety technology, continually strengthening the supporting role of food safety assurance technology. Among these, solid-phase extraction is a commonly used sample pre-treatment method, which has broad applications in the field of food safety testing.

RayKol, in accordance with national standards for the detection of toxins, pesticide residues, and heavy metals, has summarized the related consumables and supporting solutions involved in sample pre-treatment technology using solid-phase extraction.

Introduction to Solid Phase Extraction Technology

Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) technology is based on liquid-solid phase chromatography theory and uses selective adsorption and selective elution to enrich, separate, and purify samples. SPE is a physical extraction process that includes both liquid and solid phases. In the solid-phase extraction process, the adsorbent has a greater affinity for the target compounds than the sample matrix. When the sample passes through the SPE column, the target compounds are adsorbed onto the solid surface, while other components pass through the column with the sample matrix. Finally, the target compounds are eluted with an appropriate solvent and collected for chromatographic analysis. In recent years, as a sample pre-treatment technology, solid-phase extraction has been increasingly widely applied in laboratories.

Detection of Harmful Substances in Food

Food safety issues mainly include the following aspects: chemical hazards, biotoxins, microbiological hazards, food adulteration, and safety issues of genetically engineered foods. Fungal toxins, as a class of small molecular secondary metabolites, are widely present in agricultural products, feed, and food. These toxins pose a serious threat to human and animal health, making the detection and control of fungal toxins crucial. The chemical safety issue of the "vegetable basket" is more prominent in terms of pesticide residues, while for heavy metal lead detection in food, the new national standard recommends the microwave digestion-solid phase extraction method, which separates the food's lead and salt matrix and enriches the target compounds, improving the accuracy and stability of the detection. The recommended consumables for existing standards using solid-phase extraction technology as a pre-treatment method are summarized as follows:
